Αἰολίδης), a patronymic given to the sons of Acolus, as Athamas (
Ov. Met. 4.511), Magnes (
Paus. 6.21.7), Macareus (
Ov. Met. 9.506). Misenus (
Verg. A. 6.164), Sisyphus (
Ov. Met. 13.26;
Hom. Il. 6.154), Cretheus (
Hom. Od. 11.237), locastus (Tzetz.
ad Lycophr. 732); and to his grandsons, as Cephalus (
Ov. Met. 6.621), Odysseus (
Verg. A. 6.529), and Phryxus. (
V. Fl. 1.286.) Acolis is the patronymic of the female descendants of Aeolus, and is given to his daughters Canace and Alcyone. (
